What do I mean? I mean that these words usually don't mix. What words am I talking about? These words: Wooden sheds and outdoor storage. Let me explain.

First of all, when most people think of the term "outdoor storage", they don't necessarily think about wood. I don't know if it's the maintenance involved with wood, or the prevalence of other more popular materials. But most people do not associate "wood" with being one of the best materials to use for outdoor storage. Why?

Let's be honest, when you think of the outdoors, you think of all the different extremes of the weather. You think of the rain, the snow, the wind, and everything that comes along with that. Wood is vulnerable to all of those things. That's a good reason why most people that need outdoor storage usually stray away from wood and consider what they think is more durable. The ever popular "plastic" outdoor shed.

But is it really more durable than wood? The so-called "plastic" outdoor shed, I mean. First of all, it's not "plastic" per se. Most of the time it's a material that goes by the name of high density polyethylene. Or HDPE for short. This material is a man made material, as you might imagine. It is basically a chemical construct made to withstand the forces of nature. That means that it won't bend, break, warp, or burn, unlike wood. But what does wood have that HDPE doesn't?

One word, my friend. Beauty. That's it. There's nothing more beautiful than something made from pure wood. And I'm not talking about that pressed together crap either! I'm talking about real wood! Real wood does something else that HDPE doesn't do. Real wood ages. It get's stronger as it ages. HDPE just sits there. Real wood has a beauty that HDPE can never duplicate. It can beautify any place in or out of your home. Can you say the same thing about HDPE? (When's the last time you saw a kitchen floor made from HDPE?)

Don't get me wrong, I have a shed made from HDPE. Me and everyone on my block. But there is one neighbor that lives down the street that opted out of the cookie cutter sheds that they sell at the local hardware store. He chose wood, and his shed is the best LOOKING shed on the block. It works just like the rest of the other sheds on the block. It houses the same tools that everyone on the block has. It just looks better. That's it.

So the choice is yours. You can join the millions of people in the world who decided that HDPE is the way to go. Or you can have something UNIQUE. Something that no other person in your neighborhood has. Wood. If I had the chance to do it all over again, I would choose wood. How about you?
Custom closets are one of the few upgrades that actually will increase the equity in your home. These custom closets are not just for the wealthy anymore and the closet industry has come a long way in creating systems for every budget. Before you embark on this journey to clean up your closets and streamline your daily life, there are a few things you should know that are covered in the rest of this article.

TYPES OF SYSTEMS:

There are basically five types of custom closet solutions for your closets. The least expensive is wire shelving and racks which don't offer much in the way of flexibility, strength, nor storage capacity. Most new custom closet clients are looking to replace their wire systems with melamine systems. European 32mm Melamine Systems are extremely well priced, totally custom, and quite elegant. With these systems you get the most bang for your buck. Melamine is incredibly strong and versatile and can be customized for any space.

For those with a taste for hardwood, veneered and solid hardwood systems are available. With species from Bird's Eye Maple to African Wenge, the sky is the limit. These closets can be milled to your exact specifications and finished to your liking.

Finally, there are many stores that sell component systems. These are simple stackable or buildable components that can be installed by the homeowner. These systems are generally not well manufactured, are not custom cut, and are very limited in their use.

Melamine systems are the number one choice for the majority of the population. These systems have become very popular in part due to the success of California Closets. There are now hundreds if not thousands of companies offering them nationwide and melamine systems are simply the best solution for your storage woes.

FINDING THE RIGHT COMPANY:

Start your quest by searching for a company that is responsive with quick turnaround times. A simple search on Google will bring forth any number of reviews from past clients. An A or A+ Rating with the BBB is always a good thing as you know the prospective company stands up to their promises and cares about its clients. Finally, make sure that the melamine they use is 3/4 inch thick and furniture grade and is guaranteed for as long as you own your home. Comparing quotes from two or more companies is always a good idea as well to insure you are getting the best possible price. Just make sure the quotes are an 'apples to apples' comparison with like materials and design components. There are way too many variables in different designs to make an accurate pricing comparison. Once you do your due diligence and decide on the right company for you, place your order and typically within a couple of weeks, you will be enjoying your new custom closets!
These art pieces can be anything from paintings, sketches to sculptures, antiques and other collectible items. They can either be the old ones or the newly created types.

Whatever art works you collect, in time you will realize the huge volume you've accumulated. And when you're living in a small house, chances are you're going to have storage space issues later on.

Your fine art collection will need a special storage space if possible. These pieces are normally delicate they have to be stored in a particular manner to ensure they don't get damaged through time.

Fortunately, there are specialized storage facilities that offer this kind of service. These buildings often provide climate controlled units to help keep your items intact and free from damage during long storage.

Some facilities make it a point to train their staff or hire those that have experience in museum work such in art management. Working with art pieces means the person needs to have a background in conservation and institutional collection management to make sure that stored items are properly taken care of.

An ideal self storage facility for art collections should be one with spacious corridors, doorways and other clearances. This is to allow for fast and safe access to large art pieces. Some provide a 12-foot minimum ceiling height and 10-foot minimum door width.

Another important feature to look for is the security system. This has to be in place with the latest tools utilized to provide the peace of mind that customers look for. It is vital for customers to know their preferred facility has a reliable security system that can protect their valuable belongings safe all the time.

What you need to look for are a state-of-the-art lock or timed key-card system, a smoke detection and fire alarm, surveillance or CCTV camera with digital archiving, individually alarmed storage units, proper lighting in hallways and corridors, a security guard if possible and a well fenced complex. A facility with a security system connected directly to the police station and comprehensive access controls is also a good choice.

Being delicate items, art pieces need a storage space where temperature and humidity levels are controlled. The American Association of Museum recommends that art works need to be stored in an area where there's 50 percent relative humidity and with a temperature of 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Modern climate controlled units today can have their temperature and humidity controlled and allow for remote login for staff to be able to take immediate action should problems crop up unexpectedly. You may also ask about a particle filtration system that aims to avoid the presence of harmful elements.

Some high end art self storage facilities feature UV shielded lighting, custom built freight elevator capable of handling items up to 12,000 pounds.
Using storage units can be a great way to keep clutter out of your way without having to sell or throw anything away. If you want to hold onto your possessions, but simply do not have the space in your home right now, you should find out a few details about the storage units near your house.

Make Sure Your Items Are Protected from Weather

Most storage units have a few ways to ensure no harm comes to your belongings. One example is climate controlled units, which means your possessions are unlikely to be affected by snow, heat, rain, or other weather conditions. Not only should the unit be well-insulated, but it may also have heating and air conditioning so your belongings do not crack, rot, mildew, or become damaged in any other way over time.

Keep Your Property Safe from Thieves

Most reputable storage units also have ways to protect your belongings from intruders. For instance, look for a storage facility that not only locks each unit, but also has a lock at the front gate after hours. You should be given the passcode for this gate so you can access your items at any time, but intruders cannot get in easily. You should also look for a storage facility that uses video cameras on most of the property to discourage or even catch thieves. Finally, consider buying insurance if it is offered, since you never know if thieves will succeed in stealing your belongings. You should at least be compensated for them like you would if they were stolen from your home.

Pay Attention to Price

You will typically pay a fee every month for your storage unit, and you might also have to pay a fee upfront just to move your items in. Make sure these costs are affordable for you and will not suddenly increase. Plus, you should find out if you will be charged a fee every time you access your unit. You may be offered the first month free, but you should find out what you will pay every month after that, and then compare it to what other storage units charge. When you are trying to decide whether you can afford the monthly cost, consider how long you plan to keep your belongings in storage. Having to move it all out unexpectedly when you can no longer afford the expense can be inconvenient and time-consuming.

Once you choose the right storage unit for your needs, you should find out if you can pay extra to get some help moving your belongings in. Otherwise, you can always arrange to have friends help you with this task when you are ready to get the clutter out of your house. Of course, the same goes for when you need to remove all your possessions from the chosen unit. Planning ahead for this can help reduce your stress.
It may be something as simple as a spring that needs to be replaced or it could be the entire mechanism that is starting to go. The problem with garage doors is that you typically do not know there is a problem, until it is too late. Then you are faced with either repairing the door yourself or hiring a professional for tasks that are too difficult for you to undertake yourself.

Common Problems You May Face

There are several common issues that arise with electronic garage doors. Some of them are an easy fix while others require the aid of a skilled technician to come and help you fix the problem.

Remote Door Opener Stops Working- this could be an indicator that you may need to have your battery changed. Try this first, before any other solution, as it is the least expensive to fix. If replacing the battery does not help the remote opener start working again, it could be a programming issue. Each remote is programmed to its specific door and the mechanism that lies within. In some cases, the remote opener failing to work is a sign of the failing mechanism itself. While you can replace the battery yourself, the programming and mechanism failure of the garage door definitely need to be addressed by a repair professional.

Garage Door Fails to Open- many times when this happens, it is because of a buildup in the door itself. Whether it is a combination of leaves, grass or dirt, it can get into the mechanism and clog it. A professional can remove this buildup and restore your door to working condition. If it is not a buildup, the logical explanation, then, is that a spring has finally broken due to the enormous tension that they bear during the life of your usage. Spring replacements must be done by a qualified professional who is skilled in garage door repair.

It is not uncommon for garage doors to begin to show problems or malfunction. After all, they are electronic mechanisms that are subject to rigorous daily use. It is important to know when you can handle a task yourself, and when it is best left up to the professionals, otherwise you run the risk of injury to both yourself and your wallet.
You might be in between flats or maybe you just don't trust parking on the street for a long period of time. You might have something to drive around every day but you've got no room for the classic that sits parked at home.

Don't let your friend borrow your car and risk a phone call about an accident in the supermarket parking lot - if you need short or long term car storage in NZ and you're not sure where to look, talk to a storage company about self storage options for your car.

Why you should choose self storage

The number one thing you want to know when you store something as precious as a car is that it's going to be safe. Not only does a self storage unit give you a place to park up, but it also comes with all of the security features that you could ask for to give you complete peace of mind.

Nearly every storage company worth their name employs cameras and CCTV systems. Working to deter and prevent theft as well as providing solutions if something does go wrong, having a pair of eyes constantly watching your storage unit is definitely reassuring.

Employees and security staff work around the clock to ensure that your unit remains secure. Most storage companies will have patrolling security working overnight to keep watch over things. While there are usually specific opening hours, you should be able to arrange 24-hour access with night staff if you phone ahead, meaning that you'll never have to worry about not having access to your unit and car.

How to store your car effectively

Proper storage is imperative - especially if you own a classic car that you want to maintain the condition of. Using a self storage option allows you to follow a few of these basic rules to automotive storage while keeping the vehicle away from the varied and sometimes harsh New Zealand weather.

Store indoors, out of the wind to prevent damage.

Let your car sit for months rather than turning it on for a few minutes each week. While it's usually better to drive your vehicle on a regular basis, if you must store, having someone turn it on occasionally is doing it more harm than good.

Wash the car and give it a fresh coat of wax before putting it into storage.

Change all the fluids a week or two before putting your car away, but try not to change the oil until as late as possible.

Fill the tank with fresh fuel and drive for a bit before storing to let it circulate. Fresh petrol lasts a full year without additives and will help to prevent rust and other damage.

Storing your car properly is the key to preventing long-term damage. With the security and safety of a self storage option, it's the best way to guarantee peace of mind and prevent the complications that arise through thoughtless storage. Find a storage company in your town or city and discuss your needs with them.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17987723949497780379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323173086422790994.post-54012867152910694622013-11-18T00:19:00.000-08:002013-11-18T23:26:48.045-08:00The Self Storage Rental ContractOne of the most important things you need to be careful about when renting a self storage unit is the contract or agreement. This is a basic requirement that a renter needs to fulfill before occupying a space at the facility.

Some people are not very particular about this and complain at a later time. But if you take the time to read and understand carefully the terms and conditions involved, you can be sure to avoid problems renting self storage units.

In order to be briefed about a facility's policies, it would be a good idea to gather some sample contracts from several providers you are interested in. This way, you will have a better view of their requirements for renting space. Not all facilities follow the same policy so it's best to know what each requires from their tenants.

Normally, the general contract agreement is straightforward. But you have to remember that the company is also protecting itself hence, it is a must to read the fine print before signing the document.

Be mindful about the payment terms, in particular. There are some facilities that when a renter misses his payments immediately closes down your unit without issuing any notice. Some may access your unit right away and put your items on hold or schedule them for auction.

Keep in mind that when renting, nobody from the staff should have access to your unit. Only an emergency situation can warrant any employee to go inside and move your items. Moving them to another unit to give your prime slot to another renter is an unacceptable thing to do.

If a free vehicle service is being offered, be sure to know the company rules. It's easy to be tempted to avail of a free use of vehicle or equipment which is often offered when you sign a contract with a facility. Who wouldn't want to take advantage of this to move your stuff from your house to the self storage facility? But again, there's something that may be hidden behind this provision.

What you need to be wary of that sometimes, free may not always mean you won't be paying anything. Some facilities may require a deposit which can be refundable or the free service may be for a limited time only. If it's for a specific period of time only, make sure to stay within that time frame otherwise, you'll have to pay additional fees.

You may also be asked to pay for labor fees if you avail of the free vehicle service. As always, you need to really check on what's really included and the actual costs before committing to them.

The insurance aspect is another thing to learn. Many contracts will tell you the importance of having a certain protection for your stored items. The agreement may offer to you the facility's own insurance or its partners. Whatever you choose, make sure to know the rates and the policy is suited for your needs. The basic cover provided by traditional home insurers should be your basis before agreeing to purchase one.
One can use enclosed carports for extra play area, work space or for the expansion of business square footage in a very cost-effective manner.

Attractive Customization Options

Motor home carports can be customized to meet any kind of specifications. Customization with side panels, end closures, insulation and additional storage can be done. Multiple color choices and customized options of trims, windows and doors are available.

Steel motor home carports are easy to assemble. Adding customization options such as attachments or enclosures can make the process of assembly more time consuming if done on your own. However, professional installation is offered by many dealers as part of their packages. It is best to go for installation services provided by experienced professionals.

Portable RV covers can be carried from one place to another. They can be used for multiple and temporary uses such as provision of winter protection for livestock, or as a venue for an outdoor event.
Steel carports are less expensive than their wooden counterparts. They are more durable, stronger and versatile. These structures add value to your property, making it more attractive to prospective buyers.
Your Garage is home to many precious belongings such as your automobiles, lawn mowers, tools and various other important items. Let's face it generally anything manly can be found behind the closed door. If your garage door is not functioning properly it is always best to call in a professional garage door repair company.

Even if you feel nothing is beyond your capacity, this job is best kept with a professional. Here are a few reasons to reconsider:

The average door weighs in excess of 400 pounds. That in it should keep you from doing the job. But if that is not enough to deter you consider this the door falls. If it falls out and you are not around the damage may be limited to the door itself but if it falls while being opened it could land on your car with you in it. Not only could you suffer serious and possibly fatal injuries but you can also damage everything contained in the garage. That is just one of the many scenarios that can play out.

By calling in a professional service you will be guaranteed that the job will be done right the first time. If you try and do the job yourself and something goes wrong you will not only damage the door, which is quite costly in itself, but also take the chance of damaging other items stored there and again possibly even a family member.

A professional company does this for a living. Since this is what they do chances are very good that the job can be done quickly. Whereas you may have to wait for your next day off. Not only will they be available to do the job, but the completion time will be significantly less than attempting the job alone.

By calling a professional you will know that the job is done correctly. They have all the tools necessary at their disposal. If you attempt the job alone the last thing you want is to have to stop in the middle to purchase a tool. Leaving the garage door hanging is never a good idea. Once you start the job it must be completed.

When it comes to something as important as a garage door it is always best to hire a professional. The staff is fully trained and available. They have a crew with the proper tools so that the job can be done quickly and painlessly. If anything goes wrong you have someone to replace it for you at no additional charge.
One of the most common scenarios you'll encounter that might require it is when moving from one place to another. Your new apartment or house is too small to accommodate all of your belongings. Perhaps you only plan to be in the home for a short time, however. It doesn't make sense to sell all of your surplus stuff, especially if you'll have room for it again in a year or so. You need a facility where you can keep these belongings safe and secure until such a time that you can retrieve them. And that's exactly what these businesses give you the chance to do.

What It Is

At no time in history were there more self storage facilities available than today. Part of that is simply the natural expansion of a successful business model. Another part of it is likely a reflection of changing times. In a period of economic uncertainty, people are moving from larger houses into more affordable dwellings. They need a place to put their stuff. These facilities offer people or families units of varying size to put it until they have room for it again. You can get a unit as small as a closet or as large as a garage. The best companies (and the only ones really worth considering) give their customers access to their units 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Renting A Unit

The most common scenario with self storage is to lease a unit on a monthly basis. Most customers are unsure about how long they will need to store their belongings, meaning it makes little sense to sign a longer lease, even if it means saving some money. A security deposit is often required. Speaking of security, it is one of the biggest factors you should be looking at when deciding which company to go with. Cameras, fences, guards, and barbed wire are all some of the precautions put in place by businesses serious about keeping their customers' items secure.

Off Limits

While most self storage unit managers will have little interest in what you choose to store on the premises, there are some limitations. Furniture, paperwork, electronics, and just about anything else you have in your home is likely fine. Animals are not acceptable for storage. You may also be restricted when it comes to storing flammable liquids (including lawnmowers and power tools that have not been drained of gasoline) and any illegal materials. Food is usually frowned upon, simply due to its ability to attract pests.
Some Ideas and StepsA garden shed is normally depicted as a single-story structure where people keep their various gardening tools and equipment. However, homeowners can always add certain features that can make their garden sheds stand out. One of the easiest ways to do this is to add landscaping, such as rows of flowers and a small cement walkway that leads to the shed. Homeowners may also install plant boxes where they can grow vegetables and ornamental plants.

Another good idea for a creative Garden shed is to design it like a mini cottage, complete with a tiled roof and medium-sized glass windows. One can also design an open-door shed, which lets homeowners easily access the garden tools that are stored inside. These garden sheds can also feature Gothic arched windows, have a second story for extra storage space, or be as large as a small mountain cabin. Homeowners can easily find a plethora of ideas on the Internet and infuse their own ideas and creativity into the mix.

Once a homeowner knows what his/her lean-to is going to look like, the time has come to prepare the materials he/she would need to build it. The most common material that is used to build this structure is wood, although there are some homeowners who might want to use galvanized steel or vinyl. One would also need concrete and crushed stone for the foundation, roofing materials such as shingles and plywood, the door and windows, the drip cap, and vents.

One should take note of the needed materials that they would have to buy to give their lean-to a more polished look, may it be paving stones for the small pathway, the weather vane, flower boxes, and other decorations. Of course one should also prepare the needed tools, which include a hammer, nail gun, nails, roofing tar, and the door hinges. Homeowners should make a complete list of the tools and materials and check this before starting the construction project.

A Garden shed is normally built from the bottom up, starting with the foundations. One should lay the concrete foundation first before preparing the floor frames. The floor frames are held together by a series of equally distances wooden planks, which are then nailed onto the frame. This is covered by thick plywood boards that are nailed in place.

Each of the walls is prepared using a "skeleton," or a specific arrangement of wooden beams. The roof is one of the last parts to be assembled and installed, followed by the shed's doors, windows, and interior storage facilities. Finally, homeowners can arrange the different decorations that can turn their simple shack into a multipurpose structure. Those who don't have a lot of time to build their own sheds can buy a pre-packaged kit, but these kits normally use the manufacturer's own designs and dimensions.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17987723949497780379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323173086422790994.post-2631560207919327782013-10-16T00:19:00.000-07:002013-11-18T23:27:09.149-08:00Tips On Organizing Your GarageOne area of the home that is often overlooked when it comes to design purposes is the garage. The fact of the matter is, however, there are many things that can be done with the garage which will help to make it efficient and even add some space to the home. It does not matter if you are somebody that enjoys working on automobiles or if you want to have a workshop in the area to do some carpentry, there are going to be plans that are available which will hope to make it a reality. There are also plenty of things that you can do which will help to make the garage a more neat and user-friendly area.

One of the most important things for you to do when designing the garage is to take a look at the overall picture. Many of us could make good use out of the space, but it is important to make sure that you have something clearly in mind which is going to suit you and your specific purposes. In that way, you will be able to purchase the items that are necessary to store what is needed in the area without encroaching on the area to the point where it is unusable. It will allow you to park a car in the garage if necessary, but at the same time, have some little space if you so desire.

One of the options that is available for this area of the home comes in the form of garage storage systems. These come in almost every shape and size that you can possibly imagine, from shelving units that are going to line the walls of the garage, down to some rather unique items that will hang bicycles, fishing rods, or other relatively unused items from the ceiling. Once you begin to look at the systems that are available for storage in the garage, you will likely be surprised with everything that is available to you.

Something else that is used in almost every garage is a pegboard. This is a unique storage item that can help to keep many items available and within arms reach. Of course, there are a variety of pegboard hooks that are available which will help to make this become even more of a reality. For example, if you are trying to hang some tools so that you are able to get to them easily, you are obviously going to use different hooks for screwdrivers than you would for a larger item, such as an electric drill. The same is also true if you are hanging supplies that you regularly use. Choosing the right hook will make it easy for you to access these items when they are needed.

With a little bit of advance preparation and the right storage systems, you would be surprised with how much extra room you will have in the garage. It will allow you to use that area of the home more efficiently and in ways that you may not have considered before the renovation took place.
Often during college days, young members of the family need a private area for their own reasons and a well planned out garage apartment fulfills that need. Besides, there are emergencies, such as unexpected guests or when you have to vacate the living areas for painting or renovation, it is the garage space that comes in handy. We can give you six reasons to include a garage apartment when doing the layout for your next home.

Work Space

Your garage apartment can be carved out to be your peaceful studio or office space to go through documents or the silent corner for writing. It could be the luxury of having a private office within the premises of your home. For enterprises that operate from home, a garage apartment is the ideal space. It could be your address for a new agency or a collection point for business documents. You could use this space for holding interviews and even outsource it to other companies for such a purpose.

Rental Income

Once you have a decent space ready to be occupied, you can let it out and make an additional income. The rent could come in handy to repay debt in case you have made or bought the house with a loan. Besides an income, it also gives you the opportunity to have a friendly neighbor close by or some company if you are a small family or live alone. You could rent out the space even to a company to use it as an office and enjoy the higher commercial rent.

For Guests

As welcome as guests can be, accommodating them comfortably can be problematic sometimes. If you have developed your garage apartment as an extension of your home, you can tuck your guests into it and maintain your hospitality too. For that purpose, the garage space can be suitably enhanced with a compact toilet and shower booth.

Value Addition

When you have a garage apartment along with your residential unit, it adds to the value of your property. At the time of resale, you will find your property fetching a higher price compared to singular units.

Move-in Station

When you have just moved into your new accommodation but renovation, painting or flooring work is still on, a garage apartment, serves extremely well as a starter unit. You can have the advantage of having moved into your new premises while work is in progress and monitor it from closer quarters. It is just what you need to get a feel of your new address and acclimatize yourself to the new surroundings.

Get Away

Anytime you need a break from monotony, pack a knapsack and shift into your garage apartment! Take the family into your private little space and enjoy like you would in a camp or any destination away from home. You could even invite guests over for a snap party and double the fun in the cozy confines of your garage apartment.
We can see examples of this with for instance prefab buildings which are more and more common as a way to save money on building temporary structures for events, research sites and temporary housing. At the same time we are also seeing more and more portable shelters like temporary garages being used in a range of different scenarios.

These are useful in any situation around the home or a business because they are cheaper to construct and because they are portable and kinder to the environment. However they are particularly useful in situations where you don't need the property permanently, as in these scenarios there is really no point in going to the effort of building a permanent structure only to abandon it and leave it behind. In a world where everyone used portable shelters we would have fewer abandoned buildings and like snails we could take our properties with us when we moved home.

But what kinds of situations call for a building to be used only temporarily? Well actually you'd probably be surprised to learn just how common it is to need a building for only a short amount of time. Here we will look at some examples.

Events

First of all you will often need to use an instant shelter if you are hosting an event. When hosting an event you of course need to provide shelter from the elements while you host, but this isn't always easy if you only have meagre space inside your own property. Using a party canopy you can then create a venue in your garden or land, or even somewhere else temporarily. Councils often use portable shelters for putting on fairs and other such events while businesses might use them for launch parties and conferences. For individuals party tents are great for garden get-togethers or even as wedding tents.

Short Stays

Say you are renting your property but you have a car. You don't have the rights unfortunately to construct a garage on the site and it would be a waste of money if you intended to move soon anyway. However you may still require a garage or a greenhouse so you can grow plants/lower your insurance/protect your car, and in such a situation portable shelters are ideal - not costing you anywhere near the money and being transportable when you come to leave.

Disasters

Disaster relief tents are portable shelters that are erected at the sites of natural disasters and other trauma sites. These allow for aid workers to station themselves somewhere where they can keep their equipment and tools safe, and they also provide somewhere for the victims to recover and to hide while they deal with shock, injury and the elements. Of course such shelters then need to be removed, which is why portable shelters are so suited.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17987723949497780379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323173086422790994.post-31854773807713386432013-10-10T00:21:00.000-07:002013-11-18T23:28:49.067-08:00Should You Share a Storage Unit?Perhaps the idea of renting a storage unit to keep extra items hasn't appealed to you because of financial reasons, or necessity. You may have in the house so many boxes that clutter up a room, and storage would help clear out space so you can move around more easily. You may think, however, that what you have isn't enough to warrant renting a unit - even a small one - and you don't want the extra expense. What about sharing a storage unit with a friend or relative? Is this a feasible option?

If you have shopped around local rental centers for information on unit sizes and cost, you may find even the smallest unit could be quite large compared to what you need to store. If the other option leaves you dealing with walking over boxes and bumping into stacked belongings against walls, you might resign yourself to paying for extra space. Recruiting somebody close to you with items to put away, however, can prove beneficial to you:

You can split the rent on the unit, so you won't pay as much to store your belongings.

If one of you is away for a long period of time, the other can check on the storage unit if necessary.

Having more items in the space may give you a sense of security.

You will need to discuss particulars with the person sharing your storage unit - you will need to schedule payments so the storage facility receives their money on time, for one. If the facility dictates that the unit can only be rented under one name, you will need to decide whose name goes on the lease. Consequently, this may mean there is only one key to access - it will depend on where you rent. Therefore, you will need to make arrangements to lend the key when necessary.

Now, the question is not really can you share storage space, but should you do so? Renting a unit can be a long-term commitment that requires you to pay promptly. If you default, there is a chance the facility could put your belongings up for auction to satisfy the debt. Therefore, you want to make certain the person who shares with you is somebody you trust, and somebody who will pay on time - especially on months you know you're going to be short.

Sharing storage space can work if you go into the arrangement with a plan. Be mindful of your partner's belongings, pay on time, and you'll do fine.
You might just need to organize your stuff better. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of self storage units.

First, make a list of all the movables. If you have a lot of small items, group and record them into boxes. Jot down the height, width, length and weight of each personal effect. Items in self storage units will be piled up so find out the stacking limits of your items if you can. To make it easier to plan your layout, write each item on a sticky note.

Before you start arranging your pieces of paper, find out the storing limitations of your mini-warehouse. Leave at least three feet off the width to allot walking space for long self storage units. Deduct a foot off from the height for ventilation. Ask the self storage units representative for their policies on the particulars you can store and their weight limitations.

Start by picking out the heaviest items first. These will form the bottom level of the room. For hefty items with low stacking capabilities, like beds for instance, store them upright to maximize on space.

Self storage units should be planned upwards, level by level. The lighter the item, the higher up you can place it. Irregularly shaped items can store small and light boxes in their empty spaces. A chair, for example, can seat a box of figurines to make up for the space occupied by its arms and back.

Be careful when putting appliances or engines inside self storage units. Empty out all oil and gas tanks, including fumes, to prevent against fire. Observe proper fire safety procedures as well, like storing books and paper files in fire-retardant boxes.

Remember to always clean the storage shed before you start unloading your things. Spread a thick coat of disinfectant on your boxes and spray the corners of the room with insect repellant. Keep mothballs near clothes, fabrics, books and paper. Cleaning of self storage units should occur at least once every six months.

Like all rentals, self storage units cost money. By learning how to properly arrange your possessions, you can subscribe for a smaller space and save money. You could even add more items to your storage unit. Practice proper upkeep to preserve the state of your belongings.
Tips to use for maintaining and repairing your garage door will help you determine if there is a problem. When a problem occurs the source will need to be found. If the motor unit is bad, a replacement is cheaper for you to buy than having the old one repaired.

Cleaning

The outside of your garage door should be cleaned at least four times a year. This can be done by using a soft car brush and water with a mild detergent. Regular washing of the garage door will reduce debris that can build up on the door that can cause it to age prematurely. You do not want to use a cleaner that is abrasive as it may damage the surface of the door. Salt should also not be used to melt snow near the door as it can corrode the hardware and other elements. Make sure to sweep up all leaves and debris in front of the door.

Lubrication

Lubricating the moving parts of your garage gate needs to be included in your maintenance strategy. A door that is properly lubricated will not stick. This can be done by using a light lubricating oil. You can find this type of oil at a local hardware store. Spray all the moving parts including all of the hinges and the rollers. Proper lubrication will keep the door operating efficiently as it opens and closes. Make sure to coat the springs for your garage door at least once a year.

Noisy Opener

The opener for your door may start to sound loud after regular use. This can be a sign that the door may be out of balance. Pull the emergency handle when the door is down. Lift the door up and let is close to see if the door is balanced. If the door is heavy to lift, then the springs may need to be adjusted.

Does Not Close

Newer garage doors have safety features that prevent the door from closing. Garage doors that will not close may need to have the sensors adjusted. These are small devices that are attached to the bottom of the track and need to see each other. If one sensor is misaligned, then the door will not close. Readjust the position of the sensors until the door closes properly.

Does Not Open

A garage door that does not open can indicate a couple or problems. One concern is that the springs on the door may be broken. The more likely cause is a bad motor unit. Test the motor by fist unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Plug a light or other device into the outlet to see if power is present. You may have a tripped circuit that needs to be reset. Most units have an overload protector. This will activate if the motor is overused. Wait a few minutes and try opening or closing the door again.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17987723949497780379noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3323173086422790994.post-6097387801861401032013-10-08T00:21:00.000-07:002013-11-18T23:29:01.152-08:00Steel Storage Sheds For Sale - Why You Need One!he steel storage shed. I know, I know. These days it's nowhere near as popular as the frequently purchased "plastic" shed. But that's not what bought you here to this article, is it? You want to do something a little different, right? You don't want to have the same cookie-cutter shed that everyone else in the neighborhood has, right? You're leaning toward a steel storage shed and you want me to push you over the edge, right? OK, consider yourself pushed my friend! I will give you some very good reasons why you should buy a steel storage shed instead of the neighborhood standard "plastic" shed.

First of all, let me reveal the obvious to you. Those so-called "plastic" sheds are not really plastic. They are a chemical construct called high density polyethylene, or HDPE for short. It's a pretty good chemical mixture because they have continued to make all kinds of things with it, including storage sheds. It won't chip, break, or peel. And that's a good thing because you wouldn't want your new shed to do any of the above. (I know I'm not making a good argument for the steel shed yet. Just bear with me.)

The so-called "plastic" shed is built to withstand the best thing that Mother Nature can throw at it. From the extremes of the Winter cold to the heat of the Summer. It's designed with you, the customer in mind. They have plastic sheds with fake windows installed. They have plastic sheds that are so nice they can double for an outside house. As a matter of fact, there is one featured on Amazon.com that was furnished to look like an apartment. It's very nice... But what does all of this have to do with steel sheds?

Nothing. Those plastic sheds may have all the bells and whistles. But there is something that they are missing. Want to know what that is? It's quite simple my friend. Those plastic sheds are missing personality. You can put all the bells and whistles you want on a HDPE-chemical construct. But it won't have the personality of a steel storage shed. It won't have the look of a steel shed. It won't have the feel of a steel shed.

Still not a believer? Need something a little more concrete than just "personality and looks"? ( I feel like I'm setting you up on a date! Lol!) How about price? Although those plastic sheds are really nice and they have a bunch of shiny things hanging off them. They cost a whole lot more than a similarly equipped steel storage shed. Why? Because the plastic ones are in demand! So many people are buying them that the manufacturers can raise the price to whatever they want and still make a profit!

Now take a 5x6 steel shed and put it next to a 5x6 plastic one. I guarantee you that the plastic one will cost at least TWICE as much! Maybe that's the one thing that you need to sway you in the direction of the steel shed my friend. The most important thing in this day and age... PRICE! Steel storage sheds for sale is not just a statement! When compared to the price of a plastic one, you can see why they seem like they are on sale!
If you have shelving, you may be one-step ahead of everyone else. However, the bare walls and limited spaces can be transformed into an organized, well-designed space that you have no concerns about. In fact, you may not even feel bad when you leave the door open for the neighbors to see into it. If you are looking for a few great ways to clean up, organize, and protect this space of your home, the right system is the route to take.

Don't Do It Alone

One of the most important things to remember is that you do not have to design, install and put together garage storage on your own. This is something you should hire a professional to do for you or at least to help you to design. The reasons are simple. There are many types of systems and organizational tools available and each one can provide for different needs. For example, your space may need cabinetry. Others may need hooks on the wall for storage. Shelving, containers, and even ball holders are all options to consider. A professional can help you to organize the space and select the right types of elements for it.

Why Invest?

The investment in this type of product may not seem like a big deal. However, many garages lack any type of space to put things away and that is the leading cause of messy, poorly organized spaces. If you have to step over things to get into and out of the home, you need this type of service. If you spend an hour before practice each day searching for sports gear, you will benefit from this type of organization. If you find yourself always lost when it comes to finding tools, this is a great opportunity to never have to spend more time looking for a tool than it takes to get the job done. Further, if you have paint, chemicals, dangerous power tools or other items within this space that need to be moved out of the way and secured from children, you most definitely need this type of organization.

In many cases, the benefits of investing in garage storage are easy to see. You simply need to find the right type of organizational products to help you through the process. To do this, invest in a company that will come to you and offer advice and guidance. They can put the storage options in place for you, too. Some will even help you to get the space all set up so there is no reason for you to ever search for those tools again. Image what it would be like if people could put cars in garages because they were organized.
In fact, apart from the three R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) that we often hear being talked about by the experts, there are other R's that you can do to help maintain a green environment when you're storing items in rental units.

It's okay to store personal belongings in a rental unit for indefinite periods of time. Sometimes, it can benefit you to keep them safely somewhere accessible for awhile because there may come a time that you will still be able to use them again or find a better way to dispose of them.

If you're decided not to dispose of some items, do keep in mind that you can reuse them at a later time. Furniture and cubicles, for example, can be re-upholstered or refurbished to make it look like new. You should consider contacting companies that refurbish items and even provide warranty. When you do this, you don't need to buy a new one therefore letting you save money. It's all about being creative.

You may also recycle other items. There are manufacturers who provide recycling services and who knows, you may even earn from it. Companies that make electronic appliances, for instance, normally give tips on the proper recycling method for their products so if you still have your old devices, you can contact the manufacturers and find out about this.

In this case, another R or research is essential. Whether you'll be recycling or perhaps planning to buy a new furniture or appliance, it would be a good idea to do a green move. Certain parts of old furniture made from durable materials can be used to make another item such as a stool or table.

When buying a new one, on the other hand, you can now choose raw materials sourced sustainably and those that are non-toxic. Having enough knowledge on the condition of our present environment, you need to avoid items that easily wear and tear after just a year of use as they only contribute to waste. It is better to invest in a more expensive item that you can be sure will last for a long time.

Reselling your old items is one of the other R's. If you have some furniture that you have refurbished and you no longer want to use, you can always sell them again at a higher price. Conduct a garage sale in your place and who knows, furniture dealers may just be interested in them or somebody looking for a cheaper furniture may just spot them.

People who are concerned about the environment can help in the green movement by making use of their old items instead of dumping them in a self storage unit and forgetting all about them moving onwards. What's important is you find the time to do the several R's mentioned here to be able to contribute to environmental preservation and help make the Earth a better place to the next generation.
If you have searched for a local plumber, florist, dry cleaner - any type of service or retail store - you likely ask a trusted friend or relative for suggestions. So it goes with self-storage facilities. A person willing to place his/her belongings in a long-term storage unit wants a reliable service with amenities that promote peace of mind. When you provide good service and quality space to new customers, you hope word of mouth brings even more people to your door. There are ways to encourage this sort of viral promotion, and if you're not using social media to your advantage now is the time.

You may wonder is having a Facebook page or a Twitter account is beneficial to your business. Depending on the scope of your business - if you have more than one location, for example - these platforms may help bring more awareness to the public. You can post vacancies and move-in specials and track questions people might have about storage. What you really want, however, is to utilize your social platforms to showcase good reviews. Facebook and Twitter are only the tip of the iceberg in this respect. You must ensure that your business is listed with sites that people consult for honest customer reviews. Here is a sampling of places to check out:

Yelp - For years, Yelp has helped people discern good and bad restaurants in their respective cities. Registered user can now evaluate all manner of businesses - including self-storage facilities. Do a search for your business and make sure all the contact information and directions are correct. As a business owner, you can claim your page and add photos and respond to reviews.

Google+ Local - Google Places was recently merged with Google+, so now all business pages have the look and feel of a Google+ page. Nonetheless, visitors can still leave reviews of your storage facility online, and as the owner/manager you can work to control the information and photos on the site.

Angie's List - Customers tend to abide by Angie's List reviews because the site's strenuous evaluation policies. It is very difficult to place a fake review on this site, and business take recommendations from this site seriously. It is subscription based, so reviews aren't publicly accessible. Still, you want to make sure your listing here is accurate.

Once you've established a presence on these sites, next comes getting the reviews. It's important to let your customers know that you are listed on these sites - cross link to sites through your social media, and include URLs on print promotional materials. It's not uncommon to offer incentives for referrals, so you may want to consider offering discounts to customers who bring in new people through tweets or Facebook shares.

It's important, too, not to fly off the handle if you receive a negative review. Customers will monitor a business's reaction, and if you give the impression that you are willing to solve an issue that can improve your standing. Be vigilant online and let customers know how and where to show their gratitude.
Although it may sound completely boring, there is a very comprehensive and logical way to go about this exercise.

The first thing you should do is a get a blueprint or a floor plan of your garage if you have one. If you do not have this, then just pick up a pen and paper and draw a rough sketch. Now mark out the areas of the garage that you believe will be apt for creating storage space. This will give you a broad idea of the amount of space you have to work with.

Next item on your agenda should be to get into the garage and sort through all the clutter you have and categorize them. You may have categories like, bikes, car supplies, tools, ski equipment, etc. When you come up with categories like this, you will get a sense of whether you need items like hooks for hanging your bikes or boxes for storing your car supplies. You will be able to logically make note of the different shelving material that you will require.

Garage cabinets and shelves are found in various materials. Metal Shelves are generally more sturdy and reliable. However they are more expensive than plastic coated ones. If budget is a constraint, then you can consider plastic cabinets and shelves for your garage. You can also opt for wooden shelving, but they don't handle moisture very well.

Once you have settled on the type of shelving you want, you just need to go out to the market and get the relevant material. If you like home improvement projects, then you can consider doing up the system yourself. If hammer and nails is not your cup of tea, then you should leave this to the professionals. Professional garage organizers will help you set up your garage space efficiently and in a much faster span of time. If you can afford it, then you should seek professional help to organize your garage.

An organized garage is a symbol of a well-managed household. Take a look at your garage every six months to ensure that your storage space is keeping up with your requirements. If you have more stuff than you can store, you need to take a hard look and decide if there are any items you need to discard. If you still have excess material and equipment lying around, then it is time to augment your garage storage requirements.
The type of shed varies with the general setting where a household is located. For instance, households located in an area that is urban in nature are better off with garden sheds that are made of metal or one of its alloys such as steel, while rural setting households should build ones that are more in sync with the natural setting that surrounds them, by way of a wooden shed.

Garden Sheds

Garden sheds differentiate themselves in terms of their total size, the decorations that adorn them and types, based on the kind of raw materials that go into their construction. While there are a lot of options, which is good, too many options also spoil things if you are not careful, making things worse. So, when deciding, one should be extremely careful.

A garden shed is an expensive investment and hence it should be built with realistic intentions that ensure you get the returns as you would expect from it. So, the primary choice that lies in front of you is whether you should go with one that is ready-made and hence easy to set up, or should you take the second option which is to either to build it yourself or let a professional build one for you. The biggest hurdle with ready-made sheds is that you are limited with their types. When you build something on your own you could go ballistic with your choices, which should result in a shed that is as unique as you are.

Building Your Own Shed

If you have chosen to build your own shed, then the first item that you should finalize is the raw material to be used in it. Are you going to build your shed using wood or metal and steel? An advantage with metal is that it is easy to transport, design and install. Wood is expensive to transport as well as make and that is why you will always find that metal is cheaper as compared to wood, for the same quality. Steel is also much more resilient and puts up a good fight against natural elements which will eventually cause damage to your garden shed. Unless you want to give your shed a natural look with wood, going with steel means you are getting better returns for your investment.
